Spring School 2018

During the Spring School 2018 in Hanoi and Mai Chau, students from five Vietnamese and German universities - Hanoi Law University (HLU), Vietnam National University (VNU), University of Applied Sciences Berlin, Humboldt University Berlin and the University of Goettingen - came together to discuss about Fundamental Rights and their Impact on the Civil Law System.

The students were accompanied by experts from Germany, who gave lectures about institutions, terminologies, fundamental rights in civil law, etc. and provided all participants with a good insight into the German legal system. Through presentations on topics such as Minority Rights, Women´s and Children´s Rights, Freedom of Occupation, etc. held by Vietnamese and German students, the two systems were well compared and discussed.

At the end of the week in Mai Chau, a Moot Court took place, where applicants and defendants had to negotiate a case in front of a jury. The students were divided into different groups and had one day to prepare the case and to find arguments. The moot court showed that the students were able to find very strong and arguments for both sides. It was a very good possibility for the students to practice their mooting skills and to show their knowledge on legal issues.

The Spring School were not only a discussion platform on legal issues, but also a bridge for many valuable and lasting friendships between Vietnamese and German students.
