As Vietnam revises labour law, FES and partners debate the opportunity to improve workers’ rights

The ongoing revision of Vietnam’s Labour Code is an opportunity to ensure workers’ rights are better protected in the economy of the 21st Century.

Heated discussions on the labour law revision, 8th Vietnamese-German Law Days, 30 Sept.-5 Oct., 2018, Hanoi|© FES Vietnam

In 2019 the Vietnamese Labour Code will be revised. In this context, FES organized in cooperation with the Hanoi Law University, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour and other partner organisations the 8th Vietnamese-German Law Days from 30th September to 5th October 2018 in Hoa Binh and Hanoi. This week of events is an annual platform for Vietnamese and international experts to discuss labour rights as well as labour dispute settlement mechanisms and formulate recommendations for policy-makers.

Highlight of the Law Days was the International Academic Conference on “The Vietnamese Labour Law in a comparative and international perspective” with participation of experts coming from Germany, South Korea, Singapore as well as representatives of International Labour Organization (ILO) and UNDP. During the conference, many important legal issues regarding the revision of Labour Code was raised and fruitfully discussed.
